Sunday afternoon quick Leros game review.
General
------
British, my brother in law, went into free set up. Germans, foolish
wiseguy, insisted on the scenario 1 set up. I should have known
my
brother in laws dice-luck. I married his sister and she has "golden"
dice hands.
First Turn
----------
German air sorties: (Yes a 4), Both stuka's and Me109 were waved
away
after the sortie succesfull attack table check.
German Landing zone 3: 5 out of 8 boats sunk, 1 got abbandoned.
German landing zone 4: 3 out of 5 boats sunk.
German landing zone 5: all boats landed (yes it's possible)
German landing zone 13: 3 out of 4 sunk, 1 abbondened.
The Bofors at clidi ridge (3) and Mt appetici (2) finished of
the Kust
Co and the remains of II-65 and III-440. Never try running from
the
beach to the top. You'll meet lots of 51 and >> dice rolls. Not
everything got finished but there wasn't much left.
My last hope the 1-FJ. Landing between Mt Germano, Rachi Ridge
and
Quaranta. You'll never know, they landed al on top of Kings platoons
and
SBS sections. Resulting in a hughe pile of step loss counters
for the
Germans.
In the British phase they practiced duck shooting from the hills,
the
mortar/bofort mix is very lethal. Have you ever seen SBS sections
and
King Platoons close combatting arround and clearing up a FJ bataljon.
I
have.
Second Turn
-----------
The second turn the German air sortie was more succesfull. Knocking
out
one AA Gun and Suppressing a second gave the Germans a moment
of freedom
on Mt Vedetta. Taking the hill with the remainants of the initial
landings was the only succes the Germans achieved. Oh by the way
1-1-FJ
( -9 steps) got kicked of the map in trying to attack the 9-FA
on Rachi
Ridge.
Conclusions
-----------
Luckely for my brother in law he ran out of real world time. If
he
hadn't quit at this point in the game I would have finished him
of with
my Company (-) left on the map.
Lessons learned.
- Never try the orignal plan if the opponent knows the plan.
- Reread the OPS artikel about the Island before playing Leros
- Never play quick games on a sunday after-noon with your brother
in law
instead go and visit your mother in law. This hurts less than
getting
kicked of the map in two hours.
